What is Steam Header?
Steam exits the boiler through piping known as the steam header. The header also serves as a reservoir that delivers steam to the individual heating circuits. The steam header must be large enough to virtually eliminate the pressure drop between the boiler and the start of the circuit.

Steam Header Function
Steam Header functions to receive steam from one or more (maximum 8) boilers and hold it under pressure. Other equipment accepts stored steam on demand.
The header capacity is determined by configurable dimensions. The pressure difference is used as a driving force to transfer steam from the boiler to the header, or from header to header, and from header to other equipment.
The calculation of the flow between the boiler and the header ensures a balanced transfer so that the header pressure does not exceed the boiler pressure. The pressure on the header is based on the amount of steam it contains and its temperature. The weighted average of all steam inlet temperatures is used to determine the final header temperature. Both the pressure and temperature change dynamically in the online system.
A user-configurable PSV (Process Safety Vent) is defined, consisting of a high pressure trigger point which, when traversed, initiates the opening of the vent. Extra steam is released to bring the pressure below the trigger point.
