Piping System Installation Process:

Project Initiation

Functional and flow load identification, fluid type (water, chemicals, gas), operating parameters (pressure, temperature, flow rate), and site survey to determine optimal routing based on elevation, supports, and possible infrastructure interference.

  1. Material specification referencing ASME B31.3, API, ASTM, SNI codes for pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, instrument (pressure gauge, temperature transmitter, etc.).
  2. Piping layout, isometric drawing, stress analysis ensure pipe stress within allowable limits (e.g. ASTM A53 Gr B, SA-105 flanges, SA-234 WPB fittings); pipe size, wall thickness (ASME formula), corrosion allowance, and max support interval calculated per load & expansion requirements.
  3. Design includes maintenance access and pipeline code application for effective monitoring.

Materials are purchased per the verified Bill of Material (BOM); all items must be accompanied by Material Test Certificates and Inspection Release Notes from suppliers. Incoming inspection covers dimensional and visual defects before fabrication/installation.

  1. Fabrication begins with pipe cutting (per isometric drawings), marking, assembly, and welding per certified WPS/PQR—using SMAW, TIG, MIG or combination as per pipe material.
  2. On-site installation involves pipeline handling and alignment, butt weld/socket weld (SMAW/TIG/MIG per WPS/PQR), pipe support (hanger, saddle, clamp) installation per stress analysis, expansion joint for thermal compensation, and internal chemical cleaning prior to hydrotesting.
  3. Critical welds undergo Non-Destructive Testing (RT, UT, DP) to ensure joint integrity.
  4. Hydrotest (static pressure test with water) and/or pneumatic test (air/nitrogen pressure test) per code ensure leak-free system before commissioning.

Commissioning includes flushing, cleaning, instrument calibration, leak testing, and flow performance validation, finalized by preparing as-built drawings and test records as technical/legal references for industrial maintenance and audit.

System handover to owner via Minutes of Delivery (BAST), test certificates, as-built drawings, operator and maintenance training, and provision of written/manual maintenance procedures as after-sales support.

Competitive Advantages

  1. Certified Materials
  2. All key materials—pipes, fittings, valves, accessories—carry Material Test Certificates (MTC) for full traceability, verified quality/authenticity, guaranteed resistance to pressure, corrosion, extreme temperature, and aggressive fluids. Certified items meet government/strategic project standards, facilitate technical audits, enhance safety, and minimize lifetime repair costs due to reduced material failure risk.

  3. Fabrication Technology
  4. Supported by advanced facilities, modern welding systems in compliance with WPS/PQR, and NDT (RT, UT, DP), with engineering software (CAESAR II, AutoCAD Plant 3D) applied at every design stage to ensure joint integrity, linear precision, and structural strength. Process data is systematically recorded, supporting robust QA and internal/external inspection.

  5. Safety and Quality Compliance
  6. Fabrication, installation, and commissioning comply with prevailing regulations such as ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, API 570, and SNI. Safety Management applies HIRA (Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment), workplace environmental control, and QA/QC documentation trails for all units/components.

In this article we would like to talk about piping system installation service.

Piping System

A pipe can be a tube made of metal, plastic, wood, concrete or fiberglass which is used to drain liquids, gases, or fine particles. Piping systems generally include interconnection between pipes, including in-line components such as fittings and pipe connections (flanges). Pumps, valves and tanks are also part of the piping system.

Therefore the piping system is an artery of an industrial process and the contribution of the piping system is very important in the industry.

Piping System Design

Functional requirements of to the piping to flow fluid from one point to another determine the initial design of piping system. Whereas below criterias such as :

  • Type of fluid;
  • Permissible pressure drop or energy loss;
  • Fluid speed;
  • Space restrictions;
  • Process requirements such as drainage or straight line requirements, stress analysis, fluid temperature, etc.

determine the detail design of piping system.

Therefore, piping systems require significant engineering, design, fabrication and erection efforts.

And for some cases, to support the piping system, manufacturer make special structures such as inverted T or L structures, cantilevered, U portals and supports.

Piping Material

The material for pipe manufacturing must be selected to suit the operating conditions of the piping system. Standard piping codes is the guidance for correct material selection. The aim is to ensure that the materials used are completely safe under operating conditions such as the pressure, temperature, corrosion and erosion.

  • Steel

Commonly piping use steel materials. Fittings widely use forged steel materials, whereas for special application mainly use cast steel materials. Seamless and welded are two main categories in steel pipes production.

  • Cast iron

This material has a high resistance to corrosion and abrasion. Therefore, ash handling systems, sewage drains and underground drains use cast iron materials. However, cast iron is extremely brittle and unsuitable for most power generation services. Cast iron is made in various grades such as gray cast iron, malleable cast iron and ductile cast iron.

  • Brass and Copper

Power generation such as instrumentation where temperature is not a major factor use non-ferrous materials such as copper and copper alloys.
